The morning glare was intense when the vehicles crashed, sending the van into the corner of the house on Rosalie Street at Plaza Road, across from Fair Lawn Fire Co. 3, shortly after 9 a.m.
The Saturn sedan, driven by an 82-year-old Ringwood man, was headed south on Plaza Road when it was struck by a Honda van driven by a 57-year-old Nutley woman who failed to yield while heading west on Rosalie, Fair Lawn Police Sgt. Brian Metzler said.
The van then knocked down a stop sign as it barreled onto the front lawn and into the corner house, he said.
An 82-year-old sedan passenger from Ringwood was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center after she complained of chest pains, Metzler said.
The van driver was also taken there after complaining of neck pain, the sergeant said, adding that police issued her a summons for careless driving.
Police, Fair Lawn Fire Company 3 and Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue responded, along with rigs from the Fair Lawn Volunteer Ambulance Corps and HUMC, he said.
"The residence received damage to a front brick wall and interior items but was still considered structurally sound," Metzler said.
